Vending Machine Experiment

Vending machines transformed into mobile art galleries!

A collaboration between Pippa Lattey, Denise Holland and Juan Cisneros … a.k.a. the artist collective Underground Assembly.

These repurposed vending machines disrupt conventional notions of gallery space and art economies. This gives us the rare opportunity as artists to play the roles of curator, business owner and fabricator, all in a small container. A satirical view of the business of art from the perspective of new artists, the quick production of many items (often found and repurposed from the neighbourhood) allows us to explore social, political and scientific topics of interest in a light-hearted way. These cultural dispensing machines sell affordable and consumable artworks including (fan)zines, tiny sculptures, text art, drawings, handmade toys and other creations and will be displayed in galleries and shops in the area.

Venues: Chinatown Night Market (hosted by Center A), Interurban Gallery, Parking Spot Projects, the Vancouver Art Book Fair, the Eastside Culture Crawl, The Basement Show (in the BC Artscape Sun wah centre)
