Before You Say Hello

A telephone rings, in an empty storefront. There is nobody inside to answer. It rings for a while and then stops, as if the caller has given up.

The title is taken from a short story about making a long distance call, by Italo Calvino. I was interested in the old telephone, the sound of its bells, and was thinking about personal connections mediated through technology.
