Banana Installation

An intervention into a public space with large inflatable bananas. Created in collaboration with sound artist Thomas Evdokimoff.

Installed at the Vancouver Art Gallery’s FUSE event, August 15 2015, in partnership with ISEA 2015.

The bananas briefly inflate, vocalize the syllables ba-na-na, and then deflate. They are easily relatable to the body. The realization of the fully inflated form, accompanied by the vocal declaration, ba-na-na, can be seen as a jerky, awkward attempt to bring an ideal or virtual image into the physical realm, or they can be a great opportunity for a selfie.
